✅ Before You Begin

Create (or recover) your FSA ID — each student and parent contributor must have their own.

📄 Required Documents
Student & Parent(s) should gather:

Social Security Numbers (SSNs)

If you don’t have one, you can still complete the FAFSA with an ITIN (for contributors) or select “I don’t have an SSN.”

Driver’s License or State ID
-
Alien Registration Number (if not a U.S. citizen)

2023 Federal Tax Return
-
New: FAFSA now pulls income data directly from the IRS (consent required for all contributors).

No need to manually enter 2023 income if you provide consent.

Records of Untaxed Income such as:
-
Child support received
-
Veterans noneducation benefits
-
Worker’s compensation
-
Disability or housing allowances
-

Current Bank Statements & Investments
-
Include savings, checking, stocks, bonds, or real estate (not your primary home)

List of Colleges you’re interested in (up to 20 schools can be added)
🧩 Important FAFSA Updates (2025–26)

New Simplified FAFSA Form: Fewer questions; replaces the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) with the Student Aid Index (SAI).

All Contributors Must Consent to share tax info via the IRS Direct Data Exchange.

Dependency Status: Determine if parental information is required.

Priority Deadlines: Vary by state and college — check at studentaid.gov/deadlines.

Open Date: Expected December 2024 (later than usual this year).

Submit Early: Federal deadline is June 30, 2026, but college and state deadlines may be much earlier.
